The Missouri Counseling Association (MCA) is an organization of counseling professionals who work in diverse settings, including schools, hospitals, residential care facilities, community mental health agencies, the military, government, business and industry, and private practice.
MCA counselors have a wide variety of specialties, including marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health, substance abuse, school and college counseling, disability and vocational rehabilitation, career development, trauma and grief counseling, geriatric and pediatric counseling, business and personal coaching, psychotherapy for personal growth, as well as other specialties.
MCA is a state branch of The American Counseling Association, www.counseling.org. It was founded as the Missouri Personnel and Guidance Association (MPGA) in 1969, and after several intermediate name changes, in 1996 became The American Counseling Association of Missouri, emphasizing its connection with ACA. Missouri participants worked during 2024 to reorganize and established a state branch once again called the Missouri Counseling Association, (MCA)
